CanFracEnv

  • CanFracEnv implements fracture-based continuum modeling (FBCM) [FBCM] for hydrological analysis.
  • CanFracEnv is a stand-alone Windows application.
  • CanFracEnv calculates fluid flow in the domain by calculating the fluid flow out of individual elements.
  • The flow out of an element is determined through tensorial aggregation of the flux through individual fractures that intersect the element and the flux through the unfractured-rock matrix.
  • Every fracture segment in an element can conduct fluid flux to several element faces, depending on its intersection with the faces.
  • A fracture may intersect an element face along the strike or dip, as determined using the strike and dip vectors and their geometrical relationships with the element face.
  • CanFracEnv solves the mass-balance equation to compute the element fluid flux.

The publication “Fracture-Based Continuum Modeling of Coupled Geomechanical-Hydrological Processes in Numerical Simulation of Hydraulic Fracturing” (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jrmge.2023.07.009) describes CanFracEnv hydrological modeling in detail.
